DC Bike List for 5/10

Lots of great new stuff going on this week. The Bike Rack is doing its first Campfire Grind of the year on Saturday. There’s a Silver Spring art ride. And the Outriders are scheduled to do a nice loop through the Arboretum! But while this week has plenty of fun stuff happening, the thing you need to keep your eye on is NEXT week, which has several important #BikeDC events, so it might be worth taking a look now:

  • On the morning of Thursday the 17th, the DC Department of Transformation is doing a direct action to protect the bike lane on 14th St. We’re going to make a human-protected bike lane by lining the lane with our bodies and whatever else we got (road cones, our bikes, etc.) to protect it during rush hour from the motorists who habitually park there. For details, please refer to this Facebook event. We need all the help we can get, so please spread the word and come out if you can!!
  • Friday the 18th is Bike to Work Day. Every year is bigger than the previous year, and this year will be no different. Be sure to sign up and bring some friends along if you can.
  • Saturday the 19th is the DC Bike Ride. It’s an easy way to show your support for cycling in DC, and in addition to the ride, there’s going to be music and stuff. Sign up here, and get $10 off with the code
  • And on Sunday the 20th, Gearin’ Up Bikes is hosting the 4th annual spring bike swap. Great time to find a new ride for the riding season!

OK, that’s all I’ve got. If you like this newsletter, feel free to forward it along to friends and tell them to sign up or follow on Twitter and on Facebook. Also, if you have a ride you want added to the list, you can submit it via this form. Stay safe, ride fast.

– Peter
